Preparing to “Go to all the world”
As I write this I am making the most of the last few moments of stillness before I embark on what I expect to be another awesome journey to India.
10 of us from Riverside Church will leave for Bangalore on Saturday morning full of excitement and trepidation. It is going to be a trip with much to achieve and many different people to see; our sponsored children who total over 60 now, the church leaders who have brought their vision of reaching out to the poorest of the poor to fruition with the assistance of Compassion International and the Compassion staff themselves.
It will be a real privilege to spend time with these children who are now in a position to hear the Gospel and have their physical and emotional needs met.
While writing this, I am reminded of the aspects of Human need that we have been looking at recently on the Pastoral Skills course that I am leading. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Need identifies that before anything else can be met, there are physical and physiological needs that must be addressed, following this we are in a position to experience emotional and psychological needs being met. It is great to know that while the Compassion staff will be meeting these very real practical and physical needs, that they are doing so through a willingness to respond to the call that is to minister to those around us who are less fortunate than ourselves with the love of Jesus Christ, meeting a fundamental spiritual need at the same time.
Please pray for us as we “go to all the world” seeking to do the same. Please remember our health in your prayers and pray that God will provide us with a special annointing for this time and for His glory!!
